The Peaky Blinders film is officially coming to Netflix

It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for: the Peaky Blinders is happening, and it’s coming to Netflix.

The official Instagram account for the show posted the good news earlier today, confirming that creator Steven Knight’s script is finished, that the director of the first season Tom Harper is back and BEST of all, Cillian Murphy will star once again as Tommy Shelby. He will also co-produce the film.

It looks like a BIG story, by the size of the script – and we can’t wait.

In a statement, Cillian has said: “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me. It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”

“I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen,” Steven added. “It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”

He has also confirmed that filming will begin in September.

“We’re going to shoot it at the studios in Digbeth, and on location in Digbeth in Birmingham,” he said in an interview with Heart FM last year. “Digbeth and Small Heath [are] where the Peaky Blinders actually roamed, so it’s like Peaky’s coming home.”

Here’s everything else you need to know about the Peaky Blinders movie…

Peaky Blinders film release date

It’s not going to be for a while – late 2025 at earliest we’d say, if filming begins in Autumn 2024. We’ll keep you updated.

Peaky Blinders film plot

Knight has described the film’s plot as “a very specific story, that’s based on a true story from the Second World War and will be told in the Peaky way”.

Peaky Blinders film cast

When Knight was asked by Heart FM if we could expect to see familiar faces from the BBC TV show in the film, he said: “Of course, and some new faces that will hopefully be quite surprising.”
