Simone Ashley’s little black dress had the perfect twist

It’s Simone Ashley’s world and we’re just living in it.

The Bridgerton actor put on her Saturday best on May 25 for the closing ceremony of the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival in France. Ashley stepped onto the famous red carpet at Palais des Festivals and added to the glitz and glamour of the event with a showstopping Stella McCartney dress.

The gown wasn’t your typical little black dress — the actual bodice and skirt were cut short at her thighs with a ruffling detail and v-shaped neckline, but the train was the main event. The dress flowed back into a silky train that hung onto the floor behind Ashley, adding an elegant touch to the already beautiful gown.

Ashley kept her glam very sleek with a slicked-back updo and glowy makeup that included sharp, defined eyebrows and a matte lip. The actor paired the gown with diamond droplet earrings and a statement necklace.

In an Instagram post, Ashley shared some “wonderful memories” from her night at Cannes, including “watching four incredible Indian women beam and hug each other on the stage.” She was referring to the cast of the film All We Imagine as Light, which won the Grand Prix prize at the festival.

“My beautiful @stellamccartney dress that I didn’t want to take off – it was perhaps the comfiest and coolest gown I’ve ever worn. Thank you Stella,” Ashley wrote. “What a memorable weekend of sisterhood in film.”

Simone Ashley is recently coming off of promotions for the newest season of Bridgerton, which premiered on Netflix earlier this month. While Season 3 surrounds the love story between Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton), Ashley’s character Kate Sharma is still present in the show, continuing her love story with Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey. This season follows as Kate learns how to be a viscountess while trying to create an heir.
