Selena Gomez went extra long and extra blonde for her Halloween costume

Selena Gomez fell down the rabbit hole! The actor and Rare Beauty founder channeled one of literature and film’s most iconic blondes for her Halloween costume, swapping her dark hair in favour of a light and bright near-platinum to pay homage to Alice in Wonderland.

Gomez and her boyfriend, producer Benny Blanco, chose a classic couples’ costume for their weekend celebration, with Gomez looking prim and proper in a blonde wig and dusty blue Rodarte gown to play the role of Alice. (Blanco was the Mad Hatter, complete with a red wig.) The actor gave the traditional Alice costume a high-fashion twist, both via her glam and her gown. Her hair was a pale, buttery colour a few shades lighter than the one worn by the animated Alice in the 1951 Disney film, and Gomez wore it styled in loose waves down her shoulders, just brushing the top of her pale blue dress. Because Alice needs a headband or hair bow, Gomez popped the Jennifer Behr Rochel Headband in black velvet atop her head. It’s Alice, but if she shopped at Bergdorf Goodman.

Gomez’s makeup artist Hung Vanngo kept the star’s makeup fresh and light, with flawless skin, a light touch of blush, and brushed-up brows, plus a pretty, subtle pink lip — a look that was ideal for travelling through Wonderland and confronting the Cheshire Cat and Queen of Hearts.

While we’re pretty sure this blonde hair was a one-night-only thing, Selena Gomez has gone blonde many times in the past, most notably the pale baby blonde colour she debuted in 2021, which took a whopping eight hours from start to finish. Over the past few years, Gomez has stuck with her natural brunette, though she has added beachy blonde highlights to change things up. Is the Alice blonde a hint about a future colour transformation or just a fun costume idea? Either way, it’s totally enchanting.
