When Silvia Fendi’s grandchildren literally opened the doors to Fendi’s 100th anniversary show in Milan last night, and then 169 models stormed the catwalk in designs inspired by the Italian house’s vast archives, audiences were reminded of Fendi’s enduring sartorial legacy. There were (like it or not) hulking fur coats, drop-waist gowns that referenced ‘60s styles, and striped dresses from the ’70s, but the thing that got everyone buzzing was the delicious lineup of bags that filed onto the runway. After all, it is the bags that the Fendi has come to be known for, and that have entered the cultural zeitgeist in a way only a few other luxury brands have.
The Baguette bag is arguably Fendi’s most iconic creation, having reached pop culture icon status when it became a part of the storyline in the hit Noughties show Sex and the City and its heroine Carrie Bradshaw proclaimed, “It’s not a bag, it’s a Baguette.” Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Carrie, feted the 100th anniversary collection from the front row, sporting a heavily embellished, limited edition Baguette bag befitting of Carrie, of course.

It’s no secret that Fendi’s bags are one of the most searched-for bags on the secondhand market, and in recent years, their popularity has in part been reignited by Gen Z’s fascination with all things fashion from the ‘90s and ’00s. The monogrammed, classic Baguette is still all over eBay and Vinted, and Bella Hadid’s outing with the Fendi Spy Bag has given the hobo style a bit of fuel. Even the pillowy Fendi Mamma Bag is also having a moment with English singer Jade Thirlwall fronting its latest campaign.

But it’s a ‘90s sleeper hit that’s edging its way to the top of Gen Z’s wish list and it’s a cutesier cousin to the Baguette. Enter: The Fendi Croissant Bag.
In the UK, the Fendi Croissant was the most popular Fendi bag on eBay in the last year with searches increasing over 180%, according to internal eBay search and sales data. Featuring a soft, crescent shape (hence the Croissant moniker), the bag also has the same double F hardware as the Baguette, which is unsurprising given the two bags were created by Silvia Venturini Fendi around the same time in the late 1990s.
