Why Taylor Swift fans think a Reputation TV announcement is imminent

Reputation TV (AKA Reputation Taylor’s Version) has been front of mind for Swifties this past week as the singer rounds off her Eras Tour in London, with many speculating the release of Rep TV will be announced at the final London Wembley Eras Tour date on August 20.

Speculation began swirling after Swift’s show in London on August 17 in which she played the final song from Reputation for the first time: I Did Something Bad.

As she sang the first line “I never trust a narcissist”, the light-up wristbands Swifties were given for the concert turned green, a colour typically associated with her Reputation era.

Before performing the song, Swift told her fans: “So I’m gonna do a song on the tour that’s one of my favourite songs ever just because you’re that awesome and you deserve something of this calibre.”

Though Swifties had previously thought she would only play the song when announcing the release of Reputation TV, notably nothing further was said, though several fans believe she must have known about the theory given her smirks as she concluded her performance.

If there’s one thing Taylor’s amazing at (beyond creating certified hits, ofc), it’s planting Easter eggs for her fans to pick up on. After Swift announced her upcoming album The Tortured Poets Department at the Grammys earlier this year, she flashed two fingers to the audience, with this later being understood to signify her release of the double album at 2am.

So what gestures have Swifties speculating this time around?

While the singer usually gestures “2-2″during her performance of the song 22, at her August 17 date she flashed fans a “2-0” instead, with many believing it to allude to a Reputation TV announcement on August 20 at London Wembley.

Snake gesture

As Swift exited the stage after performing Karma on August 17, she waved goodbye to the crowd before transitioning into a snakey hand gesture.

For context, the snake is a major motif of the Reputation era, with the reptile holding connotations of the betrayal and dishonesty that threatened her honour, with her reclaiming the symbol through her music.

Rather than this gesture perhaps being the half wave of a woman who’s just belted out 44 hits over three hours, the movement felt very intentional.
