Though Zendaya and Tom Holland have been together for years and have walked the red carpet many times in the past as Spider-Man costars, they’ve never really done so as a couple — much less an engaged couple. That’s why many expected the two to make their “soon-to-be-married” debut at the Oscars 2025, but, alas, the couple was nowhere to be seen.
ICYMI: Though the pair have yet to formally announce their engagement, Zendaya slyly debuted the ring, a gorgeous east-west design, earlier this year at the 2025 Golden Globes. It was soon after reported that Holland proposed “in an intimate setting” between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Seeing as Z used a major awards ceremony to flash her ring for the first time, many wondered if she would follow suit at the Oscars, where her film Dune: Part Two was nominated for Best Picture, among other awards. However, the actor, who is currently in the middle of filming season 3 of Euphoria, decided to sit out this year’s awards.
Though Euphoria is currently filming in Los Angeles, where the Oscars took place, Zendaya could have chosen to skip the ceremony to focus on her job. That said, it’s also worth noting that Challengers, Zendaya’s other high-profile project from last year, which many believed to be an Oscar contender, received zero nominations for the 2025 Oscars. For reference, Challengers got four Golden Globe nominations and ended up winning one. However, until the star clarifies the reason herself, this will remain speculation and we’ll never know for sure.
What we do know is that, unlike last year’s Oscars, where Zendaya served as a presenter, stunning in a pink-and-silver Armani Privé gown, neither Holland nor she were on the list of presenters for the 2025 ceremony. Previously, Zendaya has attended the Oscars ceremonies multiple times in the past, including 2022 and 2021, regardless of her presenter or nominee status. It’s important to note that Holland, on the other hand, has only gone once in 2018.
Holland recently opened up about why he and his fiancée don’t usually walk the red carpet together. They are well known for keeping their relationship super private, and Holland told Men’s Health that while he almost always attends Z’s movie premieres, he prefers not to walk the carpet with her.
“Because it’s not my moment, it’s her moment,” Holland explained. “And if we go together, it’s about us.” Though the two were a no-show at the Oscars 2025, the next time we’ll see them together for sure is in the upcoming fourth Spider-Man movie, but that won’t be until summer 2026. And, hey, they could be married by then!
