The Testaments is set fifteen years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale and expands the story to both Gilead and Canada. While Gilead remains a brutal, theocratic dictatorship where women are oppressed, Canada shows the outside world and the consequences of Gilead’s actions on those who escaped.
