The Testaments is narrated by Aunt Lydia from The Handmaid’s Tale, and unfolds through the testimonies of two young women: Agnes, growing up in Gilead, and Daisy, living in Canada. Their perspectives offer a fresh and compelling lens on life inside — and beyond — the oppressive regime.
When does The Testaments take place?
The Testaments is set fifteen years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale and expands the story to both Gilead and Canada. While Gilead remains a brutal, theocratic dictatorship where women are oppressed, Canada shows the outside world and the consequences of Gilead’s actions on those who escaped.
