Trying season 4 has dropped on Apple TV+ – here’s what we know

One of our Apple TV+ faves – Trying – has just dropped a new season, and we’re beyond excited.

This week it gave us a two-episode premiere, with weekly episodes dropping until July. Lucky us. Rafe Spall and Esther Smith are back as Jason and Nikki, two Londoners navigating adoptive parenthood. Spoiler: there’s been a six-year time jump.

It looks heartwarming and hilarious, as ever. Here’s everything else we know so far about Trying season four.

Trying plot

The first season of the series aired in 2020, with the following plot synopsis: “All Jason and Nikki want is a baby, but it’s the one thing they just can’t have. So, they decide to adopt. With their dysfunctional friends, screwball family and chaotic lives will the adoption panel think they’re ready to be parents?”

What is Trying season 4 about?

By season four, Jason and Nikki are raising teenagers, so we see a whole new set of misguided ventures from the family, including some of the challenges that come with raising adopted children.

The synopsis for the fourth season reads: “In this exciting new season, we fast-forward six years to discover that Nikki (Smith) and Jason (Spall) are experienced adopters who have built a lovely little nuclear family, enriched by an extraordinary support network.

Colin Hutton

“However, as their teenage daughter Princess starts to yearn for a connection with her birth mother, Nikki and Jason find themselves confronted with the ultimate test of their parenting skills.”

Trying season 4 cast

Obviously, Rafe Spall and Esther Smith return as Jason and Nikki, and we will see Scarlet Rayner and Cooper Turner recast as their children.

Sian Brooke and Darren Boyd are also set to return to Trying as Karen and Scott.
