While your gran might already swear by them, we’re here to tell you they’re about to be the latest essential to never leave the house without (other than your winter coat, boots and scarf). And they can be chic, too.
When you think of practical gloves, you might picture a set of buttery leather pair, or perhaps some super padded, heavy-duty ski gloves reserved solely for the slopes. But that doesn’t have to be the case; thanks to a world of technology far beyond our means of comprehension, there are fabrics and materials out there that allow for warm, knitted gloves to double up as insulating and phone-friendly ones.
A pair of red jumble knitted mittens like the ones you used to wear at school might not be your bag these days, but keeping yourself warm and toasty should be. We flock to throw on our thermal socks, vests and fleece-lined leggings when the temperature suddenly drops, but tend to forget the two things we use the most that are facing the elements daily – our hands – also deserve some attention on the keeping cosy front.
Some of the best thermal items to own are the ones you may not give a second thought, but when it comes to gloves you’ve got to get specific on what you want them for. Are they for driving? For the morning commute? Exciting icy expeditions? Or just the evening dog walk in the rain and snow when it comes?
