When you think about Saweetie, you probably think about her extra-long, often bedazzled manicures. They’ve become a signature element of the rapper’s look, so much so that one of her sets is encased in glass at the Hip-Hop America: The Mixtape Exhibit at the Grammy Museum. (The set in question was done by Saweetie’s manicurist Temeka Jackson.) Super long nails are part of the Saweetie aesthetic, but the musician just changed it up with what might be her shortest manicure ever.
Saweetie attended the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards in a strapless Cult Gaia gown that she called “wearing art,” but instead of a stiletto mani to match, she opted for a much shorter length. Her nails were filed into a medium-length square shape and painted a delicate neutral pale pinky-beige colour reminiscent of the inside of a seashell. I pay pretty close attention to Saweetie’s manicures and I’m fairly certain this is the shortest I’ve ever seen her nails — and I’m not the only one! A fan hopped into the comments to point out the shocking change. “Omg her nails are short… will the real Saweetie please stand up,” they wrote on Instagram.

To offset the sculptural vibes of her gown, Saweetie opted for a soft, twisted updo with tendrils of hair pulled out on either side to frame her face. She kept the soft and romantic feeling alive with her makeup, rocking a taupe smoky eye with black liner, lush lashes, warm blush and a lined rose lip.
The short nails are a marked difference from her Halloween look, where the rapper poked fun at her penchant for XXL styles with an Edward Scissorhands costume. “Are these long enough for u,” she wrote in the caption. Prior to that, she showed off a set with literal $100 bills floating inside it, and in the spring, she definitely caught ‘em all with her 3D Pokémon mani. In short, Saweetie’s nails always look major no matter their length, but it’s fun to see her make such a dramatic switch-up from her usual look.
