No-one does playful dressing like the Scandinavians. While the things that define Scandi style have become a little less ~obvious~ since Copenhagen Fashion Week first entered the mainstream (and the likes of Cecilie Bahnsen and Ganni cemented Scandi style as colourful, bold and pattern-heavy), a playful undertone most certainly remains.
Need proof? Take this February’s Copenhagen fashion event. Asymmetry was showcased at the likes of Rotate and Stine Goya, while Remain leant into playful detailing like peplums, entirely sheer two-pieces and low-rise skirts. Grown-up, but with a little added fun.
One micro-trend that’s giving me all the playful Scandi vibes right now – thanks, largely, to Ganni’s sell-out release – is the tie-front top. Or tie-front blouse, as you otherwise might be searching.

Tie-front cardigans were big news last autumn/winter, but this spring, the trend has returned in blouse form. Its resurgence was spearheaded by Ganni – more specifically, by the release of their Cotton Poplin Peplum Blouse, which is available in various different colours and prints, from leopard print to blue stripe and white. It acted as all the encouragement the high street needed to follow suit.
Perhaps the ubiquity of bows – which adorned skirts, dresses and bags in Sandy Liang’s SS24 collection, as well as the eyes of models (yes, really) on a prior Simone Rocha runway – also has something to do with how popular they’ve become.
The tie adornments which take centre stage are certainly in-keeping with everyone being so-very coquette. From balletcore to Barbiecore, Gen-Z has shown a desire to to feel prim, hyper-feminine and pretty of late – but cool, contemporary and not overly sweet. Tie-front tops, then, feel on-brand.
Paired with peplums and puffed-sleeves, tie-front blouses are lightweight and versatile – styled best with denim, wide-leg trousers or a pair of high-waisted denim shorts at the weekend.
