The steamy new trailer for Bridgerton season 3 part 2 is stressing everyone out

“This author cannot tolerate a lie.” This is Lady Whistledown’s final quote in the new Bridgerton trailer, but it also applies to this author right now.

On 3 June, Netflix released the first official teaser for the second part of season three – and while it’s certainly steamy, it’s also stressing me the hell out.

Of course, there’s a sultry moment between Kanthony, as well as a preview of one particularly seductive mirror scene between this season’s main couple (IYKYK). However, the bulk of the trailer is focused on part two’s main conflict: Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) is engaged to Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) without knowing her secret identity.

Remember, dear reader, Colin hates Lady Whistledown more than most of the other characters on the show, bar the queen (Golda Rosheuvel). Aside from her penchant for exposing his siblings’ business to the ton, she also ruined his engagement to Marina Thompson (Ruby Barker) in season one by revealing her pregnancy and destroying her reputation.

Throughout the new trailer, it’s clear Penelope is struggling to come clean, but Eloise (Claudia Jessie) isn’t going to let her brother be bamboozled again.

“Until he knows the real you, he cannot possibly love you,” she tells her former friend in one scene, later threatening, “If it’s too difficult for you to tell him the truth, I will reveal it to him myself.”

As a sister with two brothers, I respect it. As a certified Penelope Featherington apologist, I’m getting ulcers just thinking about the inevitable fallout. Obviously, Eloise is right, but that doesn’t mean I’m excited to watch what will surely be a gut-wrenching scene between Colin and Penelope if he discovers her favourite extracurricular activity.

The trailer already gave us a glimpse at what a Polin argument looks like and I did not like it! “Colin, I can take care of myself,” Penelope tells her fiancé in the trailer, to which he shouts, “Then what good am I to you?” Take me back to the carriage scene, please!
