Taylor Swift is mourning a fan who died ahead of her first Eras Tour performance in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
“I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show,” Swift wrote in a hand-written note, which was posted to her Instagram story following her concert on 17 November. “I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.”
Taylor did not share the identity of the fan who lost their life before the show, nor did she confirm the circumstances behind their death. “I’m not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it,” Swift continued. “I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”
Taylor Swift is currently slated to perform two more shows in Rio De Janeiro before heading to São Paulo for another three concerts with opening act Sabrina Carpenter.
Earlier this week, AP News reported that Brazil is experiencing a “dangerous heatwave,” with the country’s National Institute of Meteorology warning for “a high probability of major damage and accidents, with risks to physical integrity or even human life.” In fan videos from her first night in Brazil, the 33-year-old pop star can be seen pausing the show and even throwing water bottles to fans.
