Viola Davis is making the ab-baring crop top business casual look a thing, and we’re here for it. The EGOT winner (and Glamour Woman of the Year!) attended the 2024 Literacy Partners Gala at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers on Monday, June 10, in an ivory bustier and matching mid-rise pants with an unbuttoned jacket featuring sculptural sleeves. Her metallic silver clutch matched her shoes, and she completed the look with a gold bangle and red nails.
The event raises funds to support literacy education efforts focused on the parents of young children, with free classes and other tools, per JustJared. Actor Ethan Hawke was also honoured that evening.
The suit is by designer Jordan Grossman, per Davis’ stylist, Jamika Wilson, and is unexpectedly trendy. Davis has always had excellent taste, but tended to favour classical silhouettes and styles, rather than following fads. This is a delightful surprise. Viola, while you’re trying out trends, can we interest you in a leopard-print shoe for the summer? Eh?
This white suit is also, we’re pretty sure, the exact same ensemble she wore to a L’Oreal event in Cannes, France a month before (she’s a longtime ambassador for the beauty brand). Which kinda makes us love it even more? Celebrities traditionally don’t repeat outfits, but not only is that unsustainable, it often results in a waste of a perfectly good outfit. When you look as excellent in white as Viola Davis does, why wouldn’t you pull out your three-piece suit for any and all appropriate occasions?
