As well as wrapping up the fifth season of Stranger Things and starring in subversive fairytale Damsel, Millie Bobby Brown’s next career moves look super exciting.
It looks like she’s going to be adapting her debut novel Nineteen Steps – which she co-wrote with author Kathleen McGurl – into a Netflix film.
The book is a New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller – released in September 2023 – so it hasn’t taken long for the movie rights to be snapped up. While Netflix is yet to comment and confirm, Deadline reports that a team has already brought in a team to adapt the screenplay, with Millie set to produce and potentially star.

What is Nineteen Steps about?
The WW2 story draws on the experiences of Millie’s own grandmother. It follows the story of a fictional character, though, Nellie Morris – an 18-year-old East London girl living in London’s Bethnal Green.
It is centred around the Bethnal Green Tube disaster, which was one of the worst UK civilian disasters during WW2. 173 people died in a crush as they attempted to find safety and shelter during an air raid.
The novel also follows Nellie’s wartime life, including a romance with an American airman. Swoon. It also looks at the daily reality of living with the fear of bombings, rationing and living without your loved ones.

It’s too early to tell when it comes to who might join the movie’s cast, but we do know that there’s a chance that Millie Bobby Brown will play protagonist Nellie. We’ll keep you posted.
