Meghan Markle returned to the red carpet with the most flawless beach waves

Meghan Markle knows the power of a never-fail hairstyle. The Duchess of Sussex typically rotates between a few tried-and-true looks for events, including low ponytails, sleek chignons, and loose waves. For her first red carpet since the ESPY Awards in July, however, she deviated from the formula ever so slightly with the most perfectly imperfect tousled beach waves.

Meghan Markle hit the red carpet for the 2024 CHLA Gala in Los Angeles wearing a reworked. scarlet red Carolina Herrera gown she had previously worn to an event. To tone down the formality of the gown, Markle’s chocolate brunette hair was parted in the centre and styled in effortless waves that fell down her shoulders to mid-back. They were the ideal non-fussy, everyday bends with a lived-in luxury that seems so easy, but probably took a little practice to get perfect. We highly doubt Markle went from the beach straight to the red carpet, but her hair is definitely giving that “long, sunny afternoon on the coast” California-girl cool she’s known for.

And that shine! Markle’s waves were ultra shiny under the camera flashes, enough that you could probably see yourself reflected in her hair if you were standing next to her. The Duchess wore her usual light, fresh makeup with a peachy pink blush, nude lip, and minimal naked manicure, letting the red dress and her hair do all the heavy lifting for the evening.

There are so many ways to DIY your own royal-worthy beach waves, including the ever-popular flatiron technique, which is key to those ‘model off-duty’ bends. You can braid your hair and sleep on it, scrunch in a wave or curl cream, or go the organic route and hop in some saltwater and let your hair air dry. Glamorous scarlet gown and red carpet optional.
