Celebrities typically play it pretty safe for the Oscars, but Blackpink’s Lisa decided to do something a little differently for the red carpet this year. Instead of going full Hollywood glamour in a ruby-red mani or ultra-sleek and minimalist with naked nails, the musician combined two very different aesthetics for a one-of-a-kind red carpet moment: preppy hair with gothy nails.
Blackpink’s Lisa, who became the first K-Pop Idol to perform at the Oscars, matched her mani to her tuxedo gown, opting for super-long, soft stiletto-shaped nails with a black ombré effect. The tips were a deep, inky black shade, which slowly faded into charcoal grey, pale grey, and a smoky white at the base. The shadowy tone of the black-to-white gradient felt just a little bit edgy for the Oscars, which made it all the cooler. They’re also a total 180 from her White Lotus premiere nails, when she flipped the script with a gold-to-white ombré.
Nail artist Juan Alvear applied Après Nail Gel-X Sculpted Stiletto Extensions to Lisa’s nails, then used a combo of Après shades including Midnight Shadow as the base, French Black tips, and Cloud Nine, which was airbrushed on for that soft gradient look.

Her nails may have been perfect for a midnight screen of Nosferatu, but Lisa’s hairstyle was giving Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl. (It was just missing the headband.) Her light brunette hair was teased up at the crown for cute, retro ‘60s volume, with the lengths styled in barely there waves. Meanwhile, her bangs fell past her brows to brush her eyelashes. The star’s makeup was equally preppy, with a cute flick of dark black liner, rosy cheeks, and highlighter down the bridge of her nose to grab the light, plus pale pink, glossy lips.
Hollywood’s biggest night has been one for the books when it comes to hair, makeup, and manis, like Cynthia Erivo’s golden nail art, Lupita Nyong’o’s pearl-bedecked hair and nails, and Selena Gomez’s Marilyn Monroe glamour. We’re going to go ahead and add Lisa’s preppy-punk look to our faves list.
