Bloomers conjure up images of Victorian ladies undressing in their gilded chambers, so who would have thought that they’d come back in style in 2025?
To be fair, short bloomers were trending last year. Coming up around the same time as the balloon skirt, cool girls were styling their mini, frilly shorts on the streets. Wearing your pyjamas out is certainly not new—already we’ve seen the boy boxer shorts take over our FYPs as the fashion set find different ways to wear their bedroom staples out-out.
Personally, no matter how hot it gets (and it’s been hot) I refuse to wear shorts on the tube. Having my legs touch the seats on public transport gives me the ick so I sadly had to give all these fun shorts trend a pass.
But lately, a new evolution of the bloomer shorts has emerged that I can finally jump on. Enter: the long bloomer trousers.

In a three-quarter length and with lace trim, on first look they look like they were plucked straight from the set of a period drama, and probably not something you’d immediately reach for in 2025. But in the last week alone, I’ve seen several very chic gals (including our very own European Fashion Editor, Londie!) style Free People’s Forever Young Bloomer Trousers and suddenly I’m sold.
