Chloë Grace Moretz comes out as gay in passionate post about the US election

Chloë Grace Moretz has officially come out as “a gay woman” in a passionate Instagram post encouraging people to vote for Kamala Harris in the upcoming US presidential election.

The 27-year-old actor has been on our screens since she was a child, starring in the action-comedy Kick-Ass when she was only 13, and with early roles in horror films The Amityville Horror (2005) and The Eye (2008).

Chloë Grace Moretz was in a four-year relationship with Brooklyn Beckham from 2014 until 2018, before being romantically linked to model and photographer Kate Harrison. Photos of the pair kissing and enjoying a dinner date were published by TMZ in December 2018, but Moretz has always been very private about their relationship.

In an interview with the i Newspaper in November 2022, Moretz said: “I like to keep my private life private,” and added: “I’m in a long-term relationship. And I really enjoy that.”

Having kept their relationship so private, this is the first time that Chloë Grace Moretz has publicly come out as gay. In an interview with The Independent in 2018, she had said: “I don’t see myself as a homosexual, I don’t see myself as anything.”

Moretz and Harrison haven’t necessarily tried to keep their relationship a secret, with Harrison posting a photo to Instagram of the pair together at New York City Pride in 2023, captioning the post: “NYC Dyke March”. And in September 2024, Moretz posted photos of herself and Harrison together at a wedding.

In Moretz’s latest Instagram post, she refers to herself as “a gay woman” and emphasises the importance of legal protections for the LGTBQ+ community.

“I voted early and I voted for Kamala Harris” she says in the Instagram post. “There is so much on the line this election. I believe the government has no right over my body as a woman, and that the decisions over my body should come ONLY from myself and my doctor.

“Kamala Harris will protect that for us. I believe in the need for legal protections that protects the LGBTQ+ community as a gay woman. We need protections in this country and to have access to the care we need and deserve.
