Bye bye ballerinas, almond shoes are the footwear trend of the autumn

Every season has its own shoe trend. While ballet flats are very much in vogue at the moment, they may soon be dethroned by a new, sleeker silhouette inspired by the 1950s. That’s right: prepare to make way for almond-shaped pumps, a style characterised by its rounded toe, tiny heel and a top that covers the instep a little more than the classic pump.

The Row, founded by the Olsen twins and the quintessential brand of the quiet luxury trend that celebrates all things discretion and minimalism, is one of the brands that has brought almond shoes back into fashion this season. Alaïa’s Pieter Mulier also had fun with a series of almond-shaped heels on the catwalk of his Spring/Summer 2024 show. And nothing could be more chic! Like any fashion staple, they can be worn with just about anything, from a pair of simple jeans to a glamorous evening dress.

Other brands offered variations on the almond shoes: at MM6 Maison Margiela, they were given rock inflections. Meanwhile, kitsch reigned supreme at Blumarine, the Italian brand that signs collections with details inspired by the 1990s/2000s, and almond shoes were paired with a pair of leopard tights.

Of course, some high-profile personalities didn’t wait for almond shoes to (re)become fashionable: Emily Ratajkowski and Elsa Hosk have already been spotted wearing these minimalist shoes. The latter opted for a look of understated luxury in shades of brown, the season’s star colour: a maxi skirt, a turtleneck sweater, a pair of almond-shaped pumps and you’re done!
