Ariana Grande released the music video for her latest single The Boy Is Mine this week, and with it, she unleashed a whole new era.
Ari has been channeling “Good Witch of the North” vibes ever since going method with Glinda, the character she’s been filming for the Wicked movie, from the end of 2022. Even her more recent music videos, like yes and?, released earlier this year, saw her keep her long, blonde hair and cutesy musical-squad persona.
But Ari shared a video to her r.e.m. beauty Youtube account taking fans behind the scenes of her newest video, which sees her swap her balletcore pink outfits and Glinda blonde hair for a sexy cat-girl leather and latex mini dress, a cat-girl mask and a sliced, flicked, dark brunette bob.

Explaining the concept, Ariana revealed: “we’re getting ready for the boy is mine video, day one, I’m doing my own makeup for this video and here we are.” She showed the r.e.m. products she used to create the look for the first half of her video (where she kept her blonde hair, worn in a woven bun, alongside a dark academia outfit of a white shirt and mini black pinafore dress).
The video skipped to the next look. “Day two of the boy is mine video and we are now going to transition from my cosy at-home peaches to our peaches cat woman look,” Ariana said before adding “when your alter ego has its own alter ego, thats when it’s time to see a therapist… I’m just kidding.”

As for her hair, she explained: Alyx [Liu, her hair stylist] is going to disassemble these beautiful big ol’ things [the blonde bun] and I’m going to transition into the wig and I’m gonna bump up my cat makeup and apply some little rhinestones.”
So, while the transition may have only been temporary, it looks like Ariana Grande is trying on her next era for size. Bye, Glinda.
