53 of the best movies on Disney+ that will keep you busy all year round

Disney+ is a streaming service that you cannot go wrong with. Having launched back in March 2020, it saw us through all our Coronavirus-induced stress and post-lockdown anxieties.

And while life is now back in full swing, sometimes all we want to do is curl up under the covers and watch a great movie – and that is where Disney+ comes in handy because you can access the streaming service’s entire programme of films for just £7.99 per month. Furthermore, you can save 16% with the annual subscription at £79.90 a year and get 12 months for the price of 10. What a bargain! So why not get down to business and indulge in some nostalgia with some old favourites while also making new cinematic memories with incredible new releases?

What are the best movies on Disney+?

One of the most exciting new releases for 2023 was Boston Stranger, starring Keira Knightley as reporter Loretta McLaughlin, which was based on the real-life inspired story of the wicked, titular serial killer. The streaming service also gave us the truly horrifying Barbarian, which we watched behind out eyes. But if you want a horror that isn’t too… erm, horrifying, then why not catch Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy in Hocus Pocus 2? Such a classic! Top up your popcorn ‘cos there are plenty of other great movies on Disney+ to feast your eyes on, such as the Behind The Eyes of Tammy Faye, which Jessica Chastain earned the Best Actress gong for at the Oscars 2022.

You can watch one of the most celebrated animated films in recent years, Encanto, a magical-realism movie set in Colombia; the fantastic Cruella starring Emma Stone and Marvel Studios favourites like Eternals and WandaVision. There are also critically-acclaimed film favourites like 2020’s Nomadland, Nightmare Alley and The Last Duel starring Jodie Comer, while reboots such as the 2019 remake of The Lion King starring Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Seth Rogan and 2019’s Dumbo will keep you busy! Oh, and let’s not forget the likes of Frozen, Moana and the recently-dropped Hamilton The Musical. We’ll be signing along right to the bitter end.

There is just so much brilliant content on offer, and so we’ve taken it upon ourselves to whittle down Disney +’s incredible catalogue to 53 of the best.
