Nothing screams ‘festive’ quite like a good Christmas jumper, but – as fellow mums will confirm – maternity jumpers can actually bring you even more joy. Because while you may have always been partial to a cosy winter afternoon wrapping up and hunkering down pre-pregnancy, nothing hits the spot quite like cuddling up on the sofa and feeling your little one kicking beneath your favourite new knitwear piece.

Let’s face it, dressing a bump (that seems to be doubling in size daily in the last few months!) isn’t always fun. It can feel overwhelming, uncomfortable, demoralising and downright expensive, only to be completely catastrophised when an extra sprinkling of pregnancy hormones come out to play.
But when the outfit hits? When you’re not only feeling comfortable and supported but confident too? You’ve unlocked a whole new level of style goals. And if you’re anything like me, once you find your maternity outfit formula you’ll repeat it. Again. And again. And again.

Let’s start with the basics. Loose-fits are a must (duh), but it’s not quite as simple as just shopping bigger sizes. Sure, some styles work using that technique, but you do run the risk of feeling a bit sloppy or drowned in fabric.
Thankfully, some of our favourite brands have got some great maternity jumpers to shop right now, with H&M‘s much-loved MAMA range proving one of my personal favourites to stock up from.
Of course you may be keen to shop non-maternity brands, too, if for nothing more than broader choices and a longer life-span (although – spoiler – you can still wear ‘maternity jumpers’ long after your pregnancy). I found that brands like Reiss and Ganni really excelled here, as their knits are a bit more premium with thick enough fabric to continue to hold their shape when you sized up without feeling sloppy. Arch4 also has a really beautiful pistachio option with matching neck scarf that I’m planning on buying as a January pick-me-up.
