Zoë Kravitz is a masterclass in unbothered chic

In recent years, it feels like celebrities have been in a competition to go viral for the wildest, most eye-catching looks. Not Zoë Kravitz, though. The actor and filmmaker is ever an example of how, sometimes, simple is more effective.

Last night, at the Caught Stealing premiere in New York, Zoë sported a custom recreation of an archival Yves Saint Laurent look from the spring/summer 1990 collection. Originally worn by supermodel Yasmeen Ghauri, the midriff-baring two-piece scoops so low that it puts even the most low-waisted Y2K jeans to shame.

Zoë Kravitz is often spotted in Saint Laurent, both archival and modern-day, which makes perfect sense. The clean lines and old school glamour are very her: making a statement without being too loud about it. Her looks often feature a touch of the bohemian, of course — she is the daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, after all.

Black is usually her go-to colour, but where she goes simple in hue, she goes more daring with silhouette. Earlier this year, she wore another archival Saint Laurent design for the Oscars after-party: a risqué dress with a sweetheart cut-out and sheer panel over the bum. It was from the spring 1996 couture collection, so clearly Zoë has a penchant for 90s YSL in particular. Completely unassuming from the front, it was the definition of ‘business in the front, party in the back’.
