As Zendaya well knows, when a ballet student first begins their training, they are given soft leather or cotton shoes with a simple elastic band that slips easily onto the foot. With this garment, the dancer moves about the floor on the ball of their foot. This is called a ballet slipper, and its fashionable counterpart is the ballet flat. This is not what Zendaya wears.
Later, a ballerina graduates to a pointe shoe, which is hard and has a ribbon that wraps around the ankle to keep it tightly in place so the dancer can balance on their toe. What’s fashion’s answer to to the pointe shoe? Debatable. Many a heel-maker has attached a ribbon to a stiletto and called it a day, but you can also make the case for the ballet…hiking shoe? At least, that’s what Zendaya seems to be doing, as she was recently spotted walking in Richmond Park, London, with her fiancé Tom Holland and their two dogs, wearing rubber-soled Eccos that lace up in a distinctly dancer-y crisscross pattern. (See the pictures here.)
Never forget that as the star of Shake It Up!, Zendaya is no stranger to the dance world, and as for Holland, well, the former Billy Elliot has been known to bust a move….
Never not using any excuse to post this. It’s too good!
Zendaya also made sure to accessorise with her stunning engagement ring, chosen specially for her by Holland. After news of the engagement became public, Holland’s dad spilled a few details about the proposal on his Substack, writing, “Tom, as you know by now, was very incredibly well prepared. He had purchased a ring. He had spoken with her father and gained permission to propose to his daughter. Tom had everything planned out.… When, where, how, what to say, what to wear…. I am completely confident they will make a successful union.” Sounds like they’re en pointe in every way.
