Buckle up, because floral summer dresses are having their moment. Granted, they may have been slammed by Miranda Priestly back in 2006 – and we don’t take Priestly’s criticism lightly – but this season’s florals are so good, even the toughest fictional magazine editor of all time would find them groundbreaking. We’re sure of it.
As seen at Loewe, Richard Quinn and Roksanda, the hottest florals of the spring/summer season are more theatrical than your usual ditsy prints, serving a stand-out fashion moment on any occasion. Too cliché? Nope. Too obvious during the hot weather? Nuh-uh. And if these floral picks from Mango and Zara have anything to do with things, you won’t have to part with your entire month’s salary to rock the trend, either.
Ah, Mango and Zara – my holy grail duo of high street stores and the best places to go to buy floral dresses under £100 right now. Stat. I may turn to luxury labels for designer investment pieces and timeless accessories, but for affordable; of-the-moment wardrobe refreshes that hit a plethora of new-season trends, these stores reign supreme.
Their floral dresses game is strong right now, proving that your summer wardrobe is not much at all without a floral dress or three. Ankle-length or short above the knee, with a V-neck, rounded, straight or sweetheart neckline, with slits or ruffles. Whatever your favoured silhouette and cut, there’s plenty in store.
Ruffles and spaghetti straps are big across the offerings of both stores, while Mango in particular is favouring florals inspired by the popular culture trend of the moment, Barbiecore. Following in the foot-steps of that entirely hot pink Valentino show (and Pantone crowning Viva Magenta their 2023 colour of the year), there’s an abundance of hot pink florals worth shopping. Oh, and if you don’t want to opt for floral print, per se, elevate your summer dresses game with Carolina Herrera and Jonathan Anderson’s adored corsage trend. This mini slip dress has our vote.
