Yes, the Biodance sheet mask is absolutely worth the hype

I’m a sucker for anything with the word “collagen” slapped on the label. So when I stumbled upon multiple video reviews of the Biodance sheet mask, it basically said, “You need to try me!” Spoiler alert: I did, and let me just say, the Biodance Bio Collagen Real Deep Mask didn’t just whisper hydration – it yelled it from the rooftops, and in a cool and unconventional way. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to wrap your face in a cloud of pure, dewy goodness, buckle up.

Now that it’s spring, I might not be dealing with the harsh winter dryness, but the dry air conditioner that’s pumped into my face all day has taken even more of a toll on my skin than the sub-freezing temperatures of November to January.

That said, my dry, acne-prone skin has been in need of some serious TLC lately, and I had high hopes that this beloved K-beauty mask would deliver hydration and glass-like skin — think smaller pores and a plump finish — to my otherwise dull-looking complexion. In offering to do just that, this sheet mask has some big claims, and I was more than ready to put them to the test.

What’s the secret sauce?

Let’s talk about the ingredients. It features hydrolysed collagen, which helps improve skin elasticity and reduce fine lines. Board-certified dermatologist Nina Desai, MD previously explained that hydrolysed collagen rejuvenates your complexion by supposedly stimulating skin cells to produce brand-new collagen. In addition, there’s hyaluronic acid, which is one of my favourite ingredients. It’s basically like a tall glass of water for your skin, leaving it plump and dewy. The mask also contains niacinamide to even out your complexion and centella asiatica extract, which soothes and calms any irritation, making this mask great to use after a detoxing mask for acne treatment.

Here’s what makes this mask unique: Unlike your typical 15 to 20 minute sheet mask, you actually leave it on for three to four hours until it becomes translucent, which indicates that your skin has absorbed all the essence. How does that work? I tapped cosmetic chemist Kelly Dobos to explain. “The change that happens here is likely from a change in the hydration and temperature of the mask once applied to the skin,” she says. Dobos adds that this sheet mask is likely somewhat occlusive, creating a seal to trap in the moisture the mask is giving the skin.

The application is easy. After cleansing and toning my skin, I unfold the mask and fit it over my face, making sure it adheres snugly. Then, let it do its magic while you relax. When I take it off, I just gently massage in any remaining essence. No rinsing is needed.

For that reason — and because the brand recommends it — I love wearing it overnight so my skin really soaks up all of the ingredients and hydration. You’re probably thinking… sleeping? With a face mask on? Sounds like an uncomfortable mess. Well, it depends on the type of sleeper you are. I sleep on my back and like a rock so it’s not a problem for me. Plus, it’s lightweight and adheres perfectly to my face without slipping off. If you’re more of a face-sleeper, I wouldn’t recommend sleeping with it on, and instead I’d advise binge-watching a show for hours to really reap the benefits of the mask.

When I wake up, my skin is so hydrated and smooth that it literally looks like glass.

Removing the now clear mask in the morning

A few hours later, after my morning puffiness went away. Look at that glow!

And that’s just one night. After using this mask for a week, my skin feels firmer, looks brighter, and is so hydrated — like my face went on a retreat and came back dewy, healthy, and refreshed. As someone who doesn’t drink as much water as I should (don’t tell my doctor), this mask is the hydration my skin has been craving for months.

My only complaint? My fiancé is absolutely terrified of me when I wear it — but for skin this good, I don’t really care.
