The 1990s classic The Bodyguard, starring Whitney Houston, is getting a remake. And fans want Taylor Swift to play the lead.
Deadline has revealed from an interview with Warner Bros bosses that Sam Wrench – who directed the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour documentary – will helm the project, so we have to wonder whether Taylor will star.
Could this mean we would see Taylor perform I Will Always Love You (the hit song from the movie’s soundtrack) or would she write new material for this rendition of the story?
Here’s everything we know about The Bodyguard and whether Tay could be starring in a potential remake.
What is The Bodyguard about?
The film tells the story of famous R&B singer Rachel Marron (played in the original film by Whitney Houston) while Kevin Costner played former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer, her bodyguard. While their relationship starts out full of resentment and distrust, they gradually overcome this as Frank tries to find Rachel’s murderous stalker.
Following the movie becoming a hit, The Bodyguard has become a much-loved stage show, in 15 countries including the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, South Korea, Canada, Italy, Australia, Spain, France, the USA, Austria and Japan.

Is Taylor Swift starring in a The Bodyguard remake?
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but we will update this article as soon as any announcements are made.
Taylor has, however, spoken before about potentially directing and making a feature-length film, after directing the music video for All Too Well, starring Sadie Sink. “I’d love to keep taking baby steps forward,” she said during an appearance at the Toronto Film Festival. “And I think that I’m at a place now where the next baby step is not a baby step. It would be committing to making a film.”
In the wake of Taylor’s potential involvement, Tyra Banks has thrown an extra suggestion into the mix. Not only has she endorsed Tay, but she’s suggested Idris Elba for Kevin Costner’s role.
“I think Taylor Swift, ’cause business and commerce, art — she would freakin’ sell like crazy,” she said. “But, okay, I’m just gonna be real, I’m a Black girl, it was Whitney Houston as a Black girl, Kevin Costner as a White man. What if we flipped it and it was Taylor Swift and Idris Elba? Hot!”
They did collaborate for London Boy, after all…
