Vintage girl summer has accidentally been crowned one of the biggest current trends on social media after a squad of our favourite celebs all leant into a bygone aesthetic within days of each other.
Scrolling through your feed, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was the 1940s or 50s (except of course, Instagram and TikTok didn’t exist then). We’ve seen tea dresses, elbow-length gloves, vintage stripes, two piece bathing suits, sweetheart necklines, cat eye sunglasses, driving scarfs, victory red lipsticks and soft pin curls.
It’s a style we’ve seen come back each year, but it’s especially popular in summer where 1940s and 50s riviera scenes sees winding coastal roads, convertible cadillacs, sailing yachts and the wind whipping through silk-scarf-bound hair and eyes shaded by long, slim sunglasses. It summons days spent on stripy deck chairs laid out on the beach and halter swimsuits.
First came Sabrina Carpenter at Vogue World in Paris on 23 June. She wore a candy stripe red and white bustier bathing suit with a matching hair scarf, floor length sarong and crimson painted lips. Sabrina’s been stanning her vintage era since releasing her Espresso music video where she wore old-school beachy pin-up dresses and bathing suits, with her long blonde hair styled like a modern Brigitte Bardot.

Next came Jennifer Lopez a day later at the Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2024-2025 fashion show in Paris. The singer served up a throwback look (that paid homage to Dior’s 1940s and 50s fashion collections) in a belted cafe au lait coloured ankle length tea dress and black elbow length gloves. Her softly pin-curled hair was swept back into a bun with waves gently framing her face and her feline liner helped finish off the look. Elsewhere, on the same trip she paired her hair and makeup with a black birdcage veil, a white shirt and a tweed pencil skirt
