Vanessa Hudgens’s negative space neon manicure combines so many nail trends

Vanessa Hudgens loves a fun manicure. The star’s nails always stand out from the crowd thanks to interesting nail art techniques, unexpected colours, and cool textures. If you, like me, are ready for the bold brightness of summer, you’re in luck—because Vanessa and nail artist Zola Ganzorigt have already done the trend-spotting work for us!

The duo, who frequently collaborate on all sorts of incredible nail designs, teamed up for yet another banger, which I’m calling a negative space neon manicure. It combines so many nail trends into one very covetable design, centred around vivid strokes of a bright, neon yellow polish and a unique negative space placement.

If you quickly glanced at Vanessa’s nails while scrolling your Instagram feed, you’d probably think it was a simple neon French manicure. But look closer!

Yes, it has French mani DNA, but instead of painting the entire tip bright yellow, Zola left a small oval shape bare right at the tip for a cool twist on the classic technique, then applied tiny silver stud decals (shaped like the sparkle emoji!) between the oval and the base of the French tip.

“Our summer neon is back,” Zola wrote of the set, and Vanessa Hudgens seconded the notion on Instagram Stories, saying she “love[s] a neon.” We can confirm this, as neons often pop up in her mani repertoire.

Vanessa isn’t alone in her colourful cravings. Musician Tyla led the neon charge earlier this month with not one but two neon manis, a “radioactive butter” mani-pedi for the Billboard Music Awards and a “neon rose” set a few weeks later at Coachella.

Fellow Zola client Kylie Jenner has also been dabbling with twists on the French mani, like the pastel blue-tipped set she recently wore. Zola also incorporated studs into that design, painstakingly applying teeny golden studs for a sweet-but-edgy throwback to the “King Kylie” Tumblr era.
