Turn Me On, starring Bel Powley, tells the dystopian story of a world without love, sex and human emotion

Everything I Know About Love star Bel Powley and Maid‘s Nick Robinson star in new movie Turn Me On, which explores a rather dystopian question – what would happen in a world removed of the inconvenience, and magic, of human emotion?

It’s a massive question to ask, and the new sci-fi comedy film explores it through the lens of a young couple’s rebellion against society’s rules.

In an interview with GLAMOUR that took place while the movie was still in development stages, Bel described Turn Me On as a film of “self discovery”. “She rediscovers herself and her sexuality,” she said of her character.

She also opened up to Deadline about director Michael Tyburski’s work on the “quite sexy” film, comparing its vibe to Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness director Yorgos Lanthimos.

“It’s kind of in the style of Yorgos Lanthimos,” she said. “It’s very absurd and I guess it’s kind of like a sci-fi romance, you could call it, but weirder than that sounds. It’s going to be good. It’s quite sexy. But yeah, from the past, straight into the future. It’s set in a dystopian future.”

Here’s everything we know so far about the film.

Turn Me On plot

The film’s plot synopsis reads: “In a world where the inconvenience of human emotion has been eradicated by a government-imposed daily vitamin, one young couple skips their dose and discovers love, joy, sex and all the baggage that comes with it.”

It sounds like a super interesting idea, and they’ve picked some amazing talent to tell the story.
