Falling asleep is no mean feat – and with Google searches for “how to sleep better” up by 129% year-on-year, it seems a lot of us aren’t getting enough of it.
If you’ve tried every pillow mist, weighted blanket and breathing technique under the sun in your quest for a good night’s kip, there could be a much simpler solution.
Anyone who has suffered with insomnia knows well that listening to relaxing music can help lull you off (Google searches for “music for falling asleep” are up 30% in the past year), but which tune is the most effective?
The team of sleep experts at Pizuna Linens have conducted analysis into the most popular music used for falling asleep on Spotify by analysing some of the most popular public playlists with titles including the term ‘sleep’, using search tool, The Playlist Miner. Excluding white noise and children’s lullaby tracks, the results revealed that the 10 most popular songs to fall asleep to are:
F.HERO – Self Love
Billkin – Mr. Everything
RM ft. youjeen – Wild Flower
JIN – The Astronaut
Jung Kook – Dreamers
BTS – Yet To Come
Billkin – Please Please
PP Krit – FIRE BOY
BTS – Run BTS
Harry Styles – Falling
K-Pop dominated the list, with Korean boy band superstars BTS collectively taking most of the top 10 spots with their group and solo songs. Thai Pop and Hip Hop artists are extremely popular, with Self Love by Thai rapper F.HERO being the most popular song to fall asleep to, despite only generating 549,999 Spotify streams globally.
From the Western music scene, popstars Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi all featured on the list, albeit lower than their Korean and Thai counterparts. Lesser-known indie and lo-fi cult favourites also landed in the top 50, including ‘Je te laisserai des mots’ by Patrick Watson and Jagger Fin’s lo-fi hit ‘Vas’.
When taking a closer look at the beats per minute (BPM) of each track, the average speed was found to be 115.8BPM. Songs such as ‘Lovely’ by Billie Eilish ft. Khalid, ‘Dreamers’ by Jung Kook and ‘All Day’ by RM ft. Tablo all have a BPM of 115 and could therefore be the perfect speed for falling asleep.
Sweet dreams…
