Historical drama fans, take note. Until the next season of Bridgerton arrives, we’ve got something to fill that specific hole in your life if you haven’t watched already.
The Empress follows the life of 16-year-old Elisabeth von Wittelsbach (aka Sisi) when she moves to Vienna to marry Emperor Franz Joseph – and the royal drama that ensues. Slight spoiler: Emperor Joseph was originally engaged to Sisi’s sister: scandalous.
Season one of The Empress was such a hit, in fact, that a second season has already been greenlit by Netflix.

What will The Empress season two be about?
No specific plot details have been released, however we expect to the politics around Elisabeth producing a daughter and the continued pressure to produce a male heir, and we’ll no doubt see what happens to The Empress after she was confined to the palace walls for flouting royal protocol by displaying compassion (giving her shoes to a young girl in need).
The Empress‘ producer Jochen Laube has given a brief outline, describing that it will “still at the very beginning of Empress Elisabeth’s life, and it makes us immensely happy to be able to continue her story with a second season.”

Who will be cast in The Empress season two?
We’ve had many confirmations for returning members of cast – including Devrim Lingnau, who will be back to reprise her role as Elisabeth von Wittelsbach, aka The Empress.
Joining her is Philip Froissart (as Emperor Franz Joseph), Jördis Triebel (as Princess Ludovika) Melika Foroutan (as Archduchess Sophie), Almila Bagriacik (as Countess Leontine von Apafi) and Johannes Nussbaum as Archduke Maximilian.
