The ‘Curve Cut’ is shaping up to be 2023’s biggest hair trend

Thanks to TikTok, hair trends move at rapid pace. But one beautiful chop is shaping up lead the pack in 2023. The Curve Cut is soft, stunning and literally everywhere.

Incorporating the best of some of 2022’s top-hitting haircuts, the curve cut brings together the texture and structure of The Rachel, the U cut and oval layers for a softer, more wearable take on layered hair.

It’s about as close as you’ll ever come to a hug in a haircut. Gently descending layers lean in and cup the cheek, chin and collarbone to offer up some dreamy face-framing action. And horseshoe-shaped layers through the back give dimension without feeling as harsh as some of the other layered cuts we’ve seen recently (see: the shag, the wolf cut, the mullet).

In fact, celebrity hairstylist and ColorWow international creative director, Dom Seeley, tipped the cut as the one to watch in our round-up of the top 2023 hair trends.

“The ‘C shape’ or ‘curve cut’ haircut is going to be huge,” Dom told us. “It features a “softer ‘U’ shape through the length and layers and face framing pieces,” he explained. It’s beauty is in how pared back it can be while still delivering a pretty and statement shape.

“It’s a progression of the heavy ‘70s and ‘90s cuts we saw everywhere in 2022. It’s like the revival of The Rachel, but it’s much more soft and not as heavy on the face framing,” said Dom. “It gives a more rounded, balanced haircut that’s still fun to style and easy to do, but the hair has more intentional, rounded shapes and curves – instead of the “V” cut where hair goes to a point,” he added. The bonus? It’ll make hair look thicker, too. As for styling, “the soft rounded curves will look great styled or left to dry naturally,” Dom told us. But to really emphasise the shape, round brushes and hot brushes can help encourage the curve and give a ’90s blown-out polish to the look.
