Period drama fans, get excited. Apple TV+ series The Buccaneers has been renewed for a second season – with Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester joining the cast, which already includes Christina Hendricks and Mia Threapleton, Kate Winslet’s daughter.
The show tells the story of a group of American women who arrive in Britain in the 1870s, and clash with the tightly-wound culture they arrive into.
“It’s been a complete thrill to watch people all over the world fall in love with these characters, who’ve been brought to such vibrant life by our spectacular cast,” series creator Katherine Jakeways has said of the series renewal.
“We know season one left audiences desperate to know what’s next for our buccaneers, so I’m absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to explore the further adventures of this smart, joyful, messy sisterhood.”
Leighton’s entrance into The Buccaneers‘ story was announced in an iconic way by the cast themselves, paying tribute to the Gossip Girl star in the best way. The video caption reads: “Darlings, welcome Leighton Meester to The Buccaneers Season 2”.

The Buccaneers season 2 plot
The official logline for season 2 reads: “In the first season of The Buccaneers, a group of fun-loving young American girls exploded into the tightly corseted London of the 1870s… setting hearts racing and kicking off an Anglo-American culture clash.
