Blue Ivy Carter might only be 13, but she’s already racking up impressive titles. She’s an award-winning musician, a model, and a dancer — but her newest role? Manager Blue.
Following her viral participation in Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour, Blue Ivy is back on stage with her mom for the Cowboy Carter tour, and she is stronger in her performance than ever before. So far after each show, social media is inundated with reactions to Blue’s dances, facial expressions, and interactions with the audience.
Blue Ivy is not shying away from interacting with fans while on tour, and is, in fact, crafting a fandom of her own with her moves and viral “Manager Blue” moments. Below, we break down the origins of the “Manager Blue” meme movement and TikTok’s infatuation with the young superstar in the making.
What is the ‘Manager Blue’ movement?
The ‘Manager Blue’ meme is a running joke among Beyoncé fans, who have crowned Bey and Jay’s eldest daughter with the moniker as a way to exemplify her hands-on nature and clear work ethic. The name really seems to have taken off during the Cowboy Carter tour, with many posting moments of Blue Ivy to social media and tagging it as such.
Some of the instances people have classified under the Manager Blue files include the 13-year-old directing sister Rumi after she joined her and Beyoncé on stage, as well as taking out her in-ear to assess whether the crowd was singing along to “Before I Let Go” loud enough.
Where did the Manager Blue meme originate?
While it’s hard to pinpoint the first instance where the ‘Manager Blue’ name was used, the wording seems to have picked up traction during the Cowboy Carter tour. That said, fans have been pointing out Blue Ivy’s “managerial” skills since she was a toddler.
Back in 2018, when she was just six, Blue Ivy went viral after she famously told her parents, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, to quiet down at the Grammys. The moment, now etched into pop culture, showed her signalling her parents to stop clapping and making a hushing gesture with her mouth and hands.
