One of the best things about the change in weather is that it gives us the chance to experiment with layers, making it the perfect time to break out those transitional jackets. From classic trench coats to modern leather or bomber styles, jackets really are the ultimate finishing touch for any outfit. Every season, I find myself asking what the jacket of the season will be or what jacket is best suited to my style – so after a lot of shopping and scrolling, I’ve rounded up the most iconic (and staple) outerwear styles that you will want to live in for the upcoming months.
This season we’re embracing structured silhouettes, as seen at Jacquemus and Stella McCartney’s FW24 runway collections, while also leaning into the relaxed, oversized looks that dominated the Prada and Tod’s shows. The beauty of outerwear lies in its versatility – whether you’re reaching for something tailored and sleek or effortlessly loose and cosy, there’s something very satisfying about styling outerwear to reflect both the season and your personal style. The right piece can elevate an entire look and believe me, there really is a perfect jacket out there for everyone.
Ahead, I’ve selected my top trends from AW24 street style and runways, and my key designer outerwear pieces to shop this season…
1. The leather midi jacket
The revival of leather jackets is not slowing down and choices are aplenty – but if we had to pick one, it would be this Bottega Veneta midi version. With its impeccable craftsmanship, sleek bonded seams and rich olive tone, it’s certainly a refined take on the classic leather jacket. The longer silhouette adds an element of androgyny – making it versatile enough to wear with everything from tailored trousers to casual denim for timeless style.
2.The trench coat
