The clocks have gone back and hibernation season has begun – it’s more crucial than ever to have your watch list sorted.
One TV show to be aware of is Smothered, a six-episode London-based romcom series all about love, and why finding it can be so difficult and hilarious. We follow the story of two young Londoners who meet, hook up and try to keep things simple and casual – and fail miserably.
The show was created and written by Monica Heisey, who wrote the hilarious break up novel Really Good, Actually, so we predict great things when it comes to how it handles romance and the laughs it brings – when it’s right and when it’s wrong.
Smothered has been described by Sky as “tale of two worlds colliding, where romance blossoms but the pressures of modern dating linger”. So relatable.
Here’s everything else we know about Smothered.
Who is in the Smothered cast?
Danielle Vitalis (who played the teen Arabella in Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You) and actor, writer and comedian Jon Pointing will play the leads, while Self Esteem, Blair Underwood, Lisa Hammond and Aisling Bea will also star.
What is Smothered about?
In essence, it’s about the trials and tribulations of modern dating, with a huge amount of heart and humour.
The plot synopsis is as follows: “Sammy (played by Danielle Vitalis) is a fiercely independent young woman who is done with dating apps, sick of immature men, and here for a good time. Tom (Jon Pointing) has never been inclined to swipe left or right; he’s a settled man with a warm heart but carries his fair share of baggage. On a night out, the two strangers meet, and end up singing out their drunkensouls in a karaoke booth. Then the inevitable happens. (They hook up).
