In a perfect example of autumn dressing, Princess Kate was recently spotted wearing a checked midi dress with a peplum and puffed sleeves.
According to the dictionary, if something is exemplary, it might serve as a model for others. Like exemplary behaviour. Or an exemplary pattern. Most prints and patterns are associated with certain seasons or periods of the year. For example, florals in spring, polka dots in summer – and plaid in fall.
Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, seems to think so too. After wearing an elegant midi dress with polka dots just a few months ago (which, incidentally, was very reminiscent of an outfit Princess Diana wore in 1986), she now presents herself in a midi dress with the check pattern typical of autumn.
On the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the Princess of Wales and her husband, Prince William, made an unscheduled appearance in the village of Sunningdale, where they visited the local branch of a women’s institute. For the occasion, Kate Middleton opted for a midi dress by Alessandra Rich (who was also responsible for the aforementioned polka dot dress).
While checked patterns can sometimes look quite rustic, Princess Kate’s midi dress looked very elegant. This was thanks to the details: a small peplum, shimmering decorative buttons, subtle puff sleeves and a playful collar with ruffles. They made the midi dress the perfect mix of casual and elegant: an effect that is also underlined by the simple colour scheme of the check pattern in shades of grey. The princess rounded off the look with understated jewellery and matching shoes.

By the way: after the princess appeared in public for the first time a few days ago with a much lighter hair colour, her hair now looks darker again. It is quite possible that she has given her blonde hair a little more naturalness with a gloss.
