Summer is the time of year when people tend to swap their long hair for a short, neck-cooling hairstyle. But Natalie Portman is the latest celebrity to reverse that trend by favouring a chin-grazing bob in the colder months and getting her hair chopped in autumn.
She joins ranks with Gigi Hadid and Zendaya, who have both opted for the butterfly bob, and Kendall Jenner who was recently spotted on the red carpet with a beige-coloured ‘50s bob.
The inspiration doesn’t stop there, as Nicola Peltz-Beckham even styled her hair into a sleek bob reminiscent of Victoria Beckham’s iconic ’90s hairstyle.
Natalie Portman opts for a curly bob in Paris
But Natalie opted for a different, more nostalgic vibe, choosing the 68th Ballon d’Or award ceremony in Paris, on 29 October, to debut her ’80s curly bob.
Crafted by hairstylist Philippe Mensah, who shared a video of her appearance on the red carpet in his Instagram stories, Natalie’s classic short bob was styled with a side parting. Rather than opt for the poker straight strands Natalie tends to favour, he added waves that stopped just short of looking like a perm from that decade.
Her usual blonde-brown hair colour had also been switched up to a darker, autumnal shade of chocolate, which reflected the light thanks to its high-shine finish.
Makeup-wise, Natalie paired the look with a soft, brown smoky eye, lashings of mascara and a delicate wash of pink blusher. A pop of berry-coloured lipstick completed the look, while a floor-skimming black velvet dress, and several eye-catching diamond rings, reflected the playful and romantic styling of her bob.
Bobs may be a year-round perennial favourite hairstyle but, as Natalie Portman proves, adding a head-full of curls gives it extra polish and interest in the winter months. We’re adding it to our mood boards for party season, stat.
