Madelyn Cline just got a ‘beach bob’, and it’s the coolest transition cut for autumn

Summer might be coming to an end, but Madelyn Cline just proved that laid-back beach hair and low-maintenance bob haircuts aren’t going anywhere this autumn.

The Outer Banks star, who’s known for her long, golden blonde hair, just debuted the perfect combination of the two beloved hairstyles for the transitional season. Nicknamed the ‘beach bob’ by Cline’s go-to celebrity hairstylist, Marc Mena, who also coined the ’90s supermodel bob earlier this year, this chop is equal parts low-maintenance and chic.

“Maddy and I were inspired by the beaches of Barcelona, so we wanted to create a look that was versatile and had a beachy vibe,” Mena told GLAMOUR US. “But at the same time, we needed something that was super low-maintenance and easy to deal with at home, but conservative at the same time.” Enter: the in-between beach bob, which, according to Mena, is about to be everywhere.

“It’s such a good in-between length for easy styling,” Mena says. “It’s long enough to pull back into a ponytail or low chignon bun, but doesn’t weigh itself down.”

He adds, “Since we’re in our ‘demure’ era, we need to be able to put our hair in a very ‘demure’ look.” Talk about on-trend!

Aside from its demure and mindful vibe, the beach bob is especially ideal for the summer-into-autumn season.

“The beach bob is a great hairstyle for the end of summer and early autumn, since we’ll still get some hot days and you won’t want so much weight on your neck,” Mena explains. “Then by the time real fall comes and it’s cooler out, the length will have grown out a little bit, so you can’t go wrong.”

Feeling inspired? I know I am. To master Madelyn Cline’s beach bob haircut yourself, Mena suggests requesting a “lob” with long, layered angles in the front – this isn’t a blunt chop. “You need some angles and long layers to create the shape on your face,” he clarifies. “The top layers and texture will keep it from falling flat.”

Since this haircut makes for ample movement, texture, and volume, you’ll want to blow-dry it accordingly, he adds. “For maximum volume, use a round brush to blow-dry, something like the Revlon One-Step Volumizer or Shark FlexStyle,” Mena suggests. Remember: Big hair is in!

“Once you’re done, spray with Maria Nila Ocean Spray and kind of scrunch it into the hair, but don’t overdo it,” Mena concludes. “Spray it about 12 inches away, since you don’t want to be too close and don’t want it to get wet; finish with some InvisiDry Shampoo on the root to give it some body.”

Et voilà! You’ve mastered your very own beach bob.
