Lifestyle & Wellbeing Picks R29 Loved In January

At least once a week — let’s face it, at least once every day — the writers and editors across Refinery29 discuss the latest and greatest products in our lives, from some cool new water bottle that’s been absolutely saving our lives to a state-of-the-art sleep product that’s changed our eight hours for the better. And gatekeeping isn’t in our vocabulary, so we’re here to share the wealth and highlight our favorite products, just for you, each month.

All linked products are independently selected by our editors. If you purchase any of these products, we may earn a commission.

In the spirit of switching things up to kick off 2026, I passed up my usual black attire for exercising and instead went for neutral tones. Case in point: New Balance’s cotton T-shirt in a shade of Linen. It’s a gorgeous breathable fabric, easily washed and goes with pretty much anything.

Do you have a least favorite month? If, like me, it’s January then you’ll understand my urgency in creating a cozy home to get through it. Enter: Cozy Earth’s bamboo bedding. I opted for the classic stripe in Ebony. I’m usually a crisp white bedding kinda girlie, but I needed to switch it up. As Edith Piaf once sang: Non, je ne regrette rien. My January was spent bed rotting in the most luxurious silky-feeling sheets. Can I get an amen?

Just like my affinity for crisp white bedding, I usually always pick white sneakers over a black colorway. But, ya know, I’m embracing the cliché of ‘new year, new me’ vibe by kicking around in a pair of Salomon x Aries’s XT Whisper. With only a touch of brown and orange, I’ve found they work with most of my wardrobe and I think I’ve got their Gen Z fanbase to thank for that.

Dry January isn’t a thing in our household, where we’ve become a little obsessed with lemon drop martinis: vodka, Cointreau, simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and ice. We already had the cocktail kit, but we were missing cute glasses until I found these. I love the delicate ribbed detailing and gold rim, and they always get compliments.

I’m really into ruffles right now (much to my partner’s chagrin), and this is the latest bedding set to land in our bedroom. I love the white trim, but it was the seafoam green — a shade I think should’ve beaten Pantone’s Cloud Dancer — that really won me over. It makes the room feel calm and serene.

A recent trip to Paris reminded me just how awful my current suitcase is. I ended up with a sore arm after hauling it over cobblestone streets to and from Charles de Gaulle. A makeup artist friend swears by Béis for her heavy kit, so this roller suitcase is officially on my list. The reviews speak for themselves, praising its sturdiness, smart compartments, and durability. I’m sold.

Who doesn’t love a blind box? Kodak’s Charmera is a keychain blind box with several retro camera designs. It’s a real mini digital camera and works perfectly with a micro SD card. As a ‘90s kid, it brings back a wave of nostalgia of taking low-res digital pics. I opened the fun gray design but I’m kind of excited to collect more.

My fascination with Japanese stationery is still thriving and at the top of my list is this Toyo Tool Box. It’s perfect for storing and organizing all my pens and supplies and looks so clean and aesthetic next to my desk or stored on a shelf.

This cookbook by chef Seema Pankhania was recommended to me by a close friend recently and it’s quickly become one of my favorites. As someone who is always looking for exciting new dinner ideas (I can’t stand routine when it comes to food), this book has given me so much inspiration. The cookbook is divided into sections including, all I want is something… fresh, all I want is something… spicy, so you can easily find the recipe to satisfy your cravings.

As someone who lives in a different country from most of my family and friends, I’ve always hoped to create a nice space for them to stay when they come to visit me. The guest room is the last room in our apartment that hasn’t had a makeover since we moved in over two years ago, so I decided 2026 was the year I was going to make it happen. I’ve decided on a pale blue and brown color scheme, and when I found this brown and striped duvet cover on Zara, I instantly knew that it was the look I wanted to go for.

The primary reason I’ve dashed to my iPhone after work to place my UberEats order is, simply, because of time. As a full-time editor and author, often the last thing I want to do after a long day (or that I have time to do in my post-work schedule) is prepare myself a delicious and nourishing meal. So, like a growing number of people around the country, I’m meal-prepping. Currently, I’m using Williams Sonoma’s Hold Everything Glass Food Storage Containers, a 14-piece set with both rectangular and round containers that easily store full meals as well as core ingredients for salads, pastas, rice bowls, and more. As I work to minimize my use of plastic, I appreciate that they’re made of glass, feature silicone gaskets to keep them airtight, and are refrigerator-, freezer-, and dishwasher-safe.

My main goal for 2026 is to save money, and that means I must significantly cut down on where my variable expenses have been going: eating out. That said, I’m doing everything I can to make cooking at home as seamless as possible. And as a single girl who lives alone, that means using cookware that’s less daunting, pots and pans that are perfect for smaller meals and have easier cleanup. Right now, I’m loving Our Place’s Mini Cookware Duo, which includes a mini Always Pan and mini Perfect Pot. This multifunctional, non-stick ceramic, and truly beautiful (mine is in the off-white color Steam) cookware has allowed me to make just the right amount of food for the week and easily reheat leftovers when I need to.

Also saving me time in the kitchen is the Ninja Crispi® Pro 6-in-1 Countertop Glass Air Fryer. It roasts, reheats, crisps, and even bakes faster and easier than a stove or oven. With two containers, one sized at 2.5 quarts and another at 6 quarts, I can easily swap between them depending on whether I’m cooking for one or hosting family and friends. This model saves me even more time because it cooks and bakes in a glass bowl that comes with an airtight lid, making storage and reheating as simple as moving it in and out of the refrigerator. But my absolute favorite part is how easy the non-toxic glass is to clean. I can simply remove the bowl and wash it in the sink, no need to scrub to remove grease from trapped crevices or coatings. That also helps to keep the appliance looking polished on my countertop.

I’m fully in my cozy era, and this under-$20 Target boyfriend pillow has absolutely leveled up my at-home nesting game. Every day since I bought it, I’ve looked forward to curling up in the plush arms with a good book and cup of tea before bed. It’s become the most relaxing ritual, and the cream sherpa fabric is so soft and comfy. (I’m thinking of getting a second since my husband keeps stealing mine!)

After decades of living with mismatched plates, I finally treated myself to The Core Set by Year & Day. This 16-piece set has everything I need, and nothing I don’t: Two sizes of bowls and two sizes of flat plates, all in smooth, sturdy ceramic. (I opted for the Fog colorway, a gorgeous warm gray.) Plus, they’re dishwasher-safe and feel like a definite upgrade from my inexpensive IKEA ones that I’ve owned since college.
