I’m convinced Megan Thee Stallion’s manicure is made of actual glass

Megan Thee Stallion may have been tapping into fairytale nostalgia with her latest manicure. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been fascinated by Cinderella’s iconic glass slippers. They were so beautiful in the animated movie that they captured my attention and haven’t let go, decades later. Why wouldn’t you want to wear enchanted shoes made of shimmering, sparkling glass, so precious that only one person could slip her foot in them? Well, there’s the whole practicality aspect of wearing shoes made from glass, so maybe a manicure like Meg’s is the next best thing.

The rapper, who is set to drop the second half of her Megan album this week, stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon wearing a manicure that Cinderella would definitely approve of. As usual, she opted for her favourite long square shape as the base for the set. At first, her nails seem almost translucent in tone, but when you zoom in, you can see that while they’re definitely more see-though than they are opaque, they’re also painted with a frosty pale pewter-silver colour, reminiscent of Cinderella’s fairytale footwear. They’re sheer, but not. They’re silver, but not. They’re simple, but full of magical little details.

For her late-night TV appearance, Megan Thee Stallion wore her hair in a sky-high ponytail that appears to hit the floor, but that’s actually part of her dress. (We love a little sartorial trompe l’oeil.) Her sternum butterfly tattoo peeked out from the cutout bodice of her dress; butterflies have been a prevailing motif of the Megan era, and she wore another butterfly tat on her chest just a few weeks ago, alongside a ’90s-style pixie.

I’m gonna go ahead and say these glassy silver nails will be a go-to trend for the holiday season; Selena Gomez just wore a similar style with her cosmic silver gloss nails, and Beyoncé’s pinkish-gray opalescent set fits the bill too. These frosty, shimmery, metallic nails would be so pretty for a party or on New Year’s Eve… as long as you don’t lose them before midnight.
