How to dress for the snow – and still look chic this winter

As snow descends onto our streets and kids around the country get excited about building snowmen, a fashion panic ensues. What do I wear?

Finding the perfect balance between the outdoorsy, Aspen-chic and everyday city style can be quite tricky, especially when you’re having to tick quite a few boxes at once. Warm? Check. Slip-resistant? Check. Waterproof but stylish? Check, check. As always, the best thing to do when in a style dilemma is to look to stylish celebs for inspiration. Whether it’s Mariah Carey and Bella Hadid bumping into each other off-piste or Sabrina Carpenter and Emma Chamberlain holidaying together, the 2026 recipe to snow-ready style is pretty simple: neutral layers worn with a statement coat.

Faux fur is the most favoured statement of all, whether it’s constructed in a patchwork style or featuring an animal print. The statement coat, either cinched in the waist or worn open with a scarf, can be both long and hip-length, though it’s good to make sure its colours match the rest of the outfit. The idea is for the outerwear to be star of the show, and it’s always a good idea to play with opposites – a luxe-looking coat with casual shoes, like UGGs or cowboy boots.

For further proof that snow-ready looks can be chic indeed, have a look at some of our favourite winter looks featuring statement outerwear:

Her peak season might be over, but Mariah still finds a way to stun. The queen of Christmas is currently holidaying in Aspen, and this short furry coat cinched with a chunky chain belt is exactly the kind of decadence we want to bring into 2026.
