Getting a hair cut or blow dry can be a treasured act of self care, but what if that act could care for other people too?
For the first time in its 35 year history one of the UK’s leading children’s charities, Children With Cancer UK, has teamed up with selfless hair stylists across the UK for #StyleAgainstCancer. Every day in the UK, 10 families receive a childhood cancer diagnosis. The series of independent events taking place between 2nd October to 6th October will see hair stylists fund-raising in order to donate essential funds for the charity’s research and wellbeing programmes.
Each salon or stylist will be donating a minimum of £35 to the charity. Some have chosen specific treatments (like a blow dry, or Olaplex treatment) where some or all of the proceeds will go to Children With Cancer UK. Others have set aside a day to offer treatments in exchange for donations. And some are using their salons and appointments to raise awareness with their clients and encourage donations. You can help by booking in for a service and using your stylist’s QR code to link through to their Just Giving page and donate. Or, even if you don’t have time for a salon visit, you can donate directly here.
Top celeb hair stylists, like George Northwood (who works with the likes of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Alexa Chung) and Chris Appleton (whose clients include Kim Kardashian and JLo) have been using their time, skills and platforms to raise money and awareness.

George said: “I’m thrilled to support this new initiative from Children with Cancer UK as we all know the devastating impact this disease has on everyone. Stylists and their clients can enjoy a day of fun whilst raising crucial awareness.”
Meanwhile, Chris explained: “I’m taking part in #StyleAgainstCancer to support UK families facing their worst fears – when their child is diagnosed with cancer. As a stylist, we share so many moments with our clients in their chairs and many of those can be the life-changing news of a diagnosis, the decision to change their style before hair loss and treatment, or sharing stories of cancer journeys. I’m proud to be involved in this campaign […] and encourage my followers and fellow stylists to help continue supporting young people and their families.”
So, booking in for a blow dry or haircut could just be the kindest thing you do for yourself and for others this week. Find participating fundraisers near you.
