Designer sunglasses are the simplest way to elevate an outfit

Designer sunglasses may seem like a frivolous purchase to some, but those in-the-know understand that they’re the easiest way to elevate an outfit.

Contrary to popular belief, they’re not just an accessory to bring out when the weather permits either. Rather, they serve purpose (and provide status) all year round. Take it from our favourite celebrities. They use designer sunnies as the proverbial cherry on top of their already well-curated looks… though, granted, they’re also a great line of defence for shying away from paparazzi.

From the seen-everywhere Celine Triomphe specs to the more discreetly branded Bottega Veneta cat-eyes, this year has seen various shapes and colourways hit the runways. Most notably? Inflated sunglasses at Loewe, pilot-styles at Jean Paul Gaultier, bug glasses at Jacques Marie Mage and 70s-inspired lenses at Miu Miu.

Styles you can wear more easily aren’t going anywhere either. See below for A-lister proof…

Ahead, the best designer sunglasses to invest in for 2024:

Bottega Veneta Cat-Eye Sunglasses

Spotted on Dakota Johnson this earlier summer, Bottega Veneta’s cat-eye sunglasses come in a few different shades – but how could the tortoiseshell not be your pick? Formed with an elegant point to the outer corner, this silhouette is ideal for those with an oblong or diamond-shaped face.

  • Colours: Tortoiseshell, black, havana/brown.
  • Material: Acetate.
  • UV protection: Category 3 lens filter.
  • Made in: Italy.

Celine Triomphe Sunglasses

You’ve undoubtedly seen a pair of Triomphe logo-stamped sunglasses on every member of the fashion crowd this year, and with good reason too: they’re perennially chic. Lady Gaga opted for an oversized square-frame pair at this year’s Olympics, and while we thought oversized frames were on the out we were happy to be proven otherwise.

  • Colours: Black, tortoiseshell, ivory.
  • Material: Acetate.
  • UV protection: 100%.
  • Made in: N/A.

Saint Laurent Round Sunglasses

Minimalists, these ones are for you. Co-signed by Zoe Kravitz, Saint Laurent’s Jeanne sunglasses are perfect for those who want to avoid branding. The logo is engraved in a small print to each arm, so only those you allow close enough will clock them, and the grey tinted lenses are at the perfect opacity for a stealthy finish.

  • Colours: Black.
  • Material: Acetate, acrylic.
  • UV protection: Yes.
  • Made in: Italy.
