And now, with the actress and singer sadly passing at the age of 76 in Paris on 16 July 2023, interest in the woman and her signature style has surged as many look to pay tribute to her colourful life.

A Londoner, who lived in Paris, Birkin blended her cool-girl Brit background with the effortless French style of her adopted city. Hence, her chic throwback beauty moments make her as much of a muse today.

Her trademark was an easy, breezy, effortless look that was pulled together and polished, while still feeling a little worn. Her style gave the impression she was too busy having fun and being fabulous to try too hard (we know, iconic). As for that fringe (or la frange), it was famous for its flirty eyelash-skimming length and piecey texture, cut softly with no harsh line.
