Billie Piper is writing an exciting ‘musical film’ scored with dance music

Billie Piper has given us a tantalising teaser of a “musical” future project – which seems the perfect next move for her singing and acting talent.

The Hollywood multi-hyphenate – and star of season 2 of Netflix hit Wednesday – sat down with GLAMOUR’s head of editorial content Kemi Alemoru to talk joining the cast of Wednesday as werewolf and musical teacher Capri, the intensity and influence of mother-daughter relationships both on and off screen and channelling her outcast energy, inspired by the show of course.

A truly exciting nugget from the interview, though, was that Billie has been working on what she describes as a “musical” movie scored with dance music, and quite frankly we are so seated for this.

“I’m probably not going to go back into music but I’ve been thinking recently about how I could merge the worlds,” she told GLAMOUR. “I love dancing, and want to find if there is a way for me to dance and sing but not live, and have it sort of married with a movie. So basically a musical.”

“I’ve just written a film that I hope to direct next year. It’s heavy but I want to score it with dance music. To me, there is no difference between dance music and classical music except the beat. It still moves you in the same way.”

We could not think of a more perfect next project for Billie Piper – a mix of the magic of her teen pop star days and her onscreen genius, which ranges from dark comedy TV series I Hate Suzie to her legendary turn as Rose Tyler in Doctor Who.

Billie also waxed lyrical to GLAMOUR about her time at performing arts school, where her passion for singing and dancing was born.

“It was so fun,” she remembers. “I remember being in awe of the talent, especially the vocal ability. We only had to do school work for three days a week and the rest of the time it was singing, dancing and acting.”

We can’t wait to see what kind of musical movie delight Billie may bring to our screens.
