Big Mood is officially back for a second season – here’s what we know

One of 2024’s most innovative and hilarious TV shows has been renewed, and we couldn’t be more excited. Big Mood, starring Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West, will return for a second instalment.

The first season was a pretty big deal – it was even confirmed as Channel 4’s most-watched new comedy launch since Derry Girls. On top of Nicola and Lydia’s stellar performances, Big Mood was praised for its onscreen portrayal of bipolar disorder, as well as the ways that mental health issues can affect close friendships. It carried these important issues with care, as well as humour.

The show’s writer and creator Camilla Whitehill has previously spoken about why she chose to use humour to depict such heavy and important topics. “There’s perhaps a misconception that by using humour to explore something, you’re taking the topic less seriously,” she said.

Star Nicola Coughlan has already spoken out about her excitement for the return of Big Mood. “Deeply grateful to everyone who loves our mad, funny, sad show,” she said in a statement. “It’s been one of the greatest joys of my life making it, and I’m beyond delighted that we get to come back and tell the next chapter of Maggie and Eddie’s story.”

“So excited to reunite with my besties and work on series 2!” Lydia added. “I can’t wait to see the scripts.”

Here’s everything we know so far about Big Mood season 2.

Big Mood season 2 plot

It looks like we’re going to see a time jump from where season 1 ended.

Channel 4’s synopsis for Big Mood‘s second outing reads: “It’s been a year since Maggie and Eddie last saw each other, without any contact between the best friends. When Eddie suddenly returns for a wedding, she isn’t alone – Maggie has competition, in the form of an infuriatingly positive spiritual healer named Whitney. Can Maggie and her special brand of chaos find space in Eddie’s new life? Or will Maggie lose Eddie forever?”

Big Mood season 2 cast

No new cast additions have been announced yet, but we expect we will hear more in the lead up filming commencing later this year.
