Minimalists and muted palette-lovers, look away now, because this spring/summer’s biggest fashion trend is bright, unapologetic and brilliantly saccharine. Enter: barbiecore.
Yep, now we’ve (finally) seen the trailer for the much-awaited Barbie movie – with Ryan Gosling as Ken and the likes of Dua Lipa and Anne Hathaway making appearances – all we can think about is how to replicate Margot Robbie’s looks. We didn’t have the nostalgic character down as a style heroine on our 2023 bingo cards, but we’re not complaining. In fact, even before the BTS snaps and clips of the ultimate blonde hair bombshell landed, the hyper-feminine trend was already finding its way onto our timelines.

Post-pandemic fashion has remained all about one thing: high-voltage shades and mood-boosting dopamine dressing. So much so that, last year, Valentino’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli dedicated his entire A/W collection to hot pink, in collab with Pantone ahead of their 2023 colour of the year (Viva Magenta). There wasn’t a single celebrity red carpet that didn’t have at least a flurry of fuchsia. Nicola Peltz-Beckham wore one of Piccioli’s creations on the Met Gala red carpet; as did former GLAMOUR coverstar Simone Ashley at the BAFTAs.
As for other celebs who can’t get enough of the sickly sweet hue? Lizzo donned a candyfloss shade at the Brits this year, captivating the hearts of the nation while looking like a literal doll on stage.
